Safety device for a motor vehicle (1), in particular to reduce the risk of injury to vehicle passengers in a side impact, comprising: A control apparatus which is arranged at a first supporting part which is a supporting part of the vehicle door, a storage compartment or a part thereof which is moveable with the control apparatus from a starting position into an extended position, a drive apparatus linked to the control apparatus for extending of the storage compartment or of a part thereof, and a locking apparatus for locking of the safety device in the extended position, and also a motor vehicle door with a safety device.
