<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital data reproducing device in which copyright of digital data such as video and audio can be protected with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: A content provider side embeds copyright management information (cumulative number of reproduction times, permissible number of reproduction times, elapsed days, utilization limit, identifier of reproducing device, or the like) into digital data deteriorated by scramble or the like and provides it a content user. The reproducing device of the content user side detects the copyright management information by a copyright management information detecting means 2, decreases the degradation by a data deterioration reducing means 4 in accordance with the detected result, and reproduces it by a data reproducing means 5. Also, copyright information updated by a copyright management information updating means 3 is incorporated in the deteriorated data by a copyright management information incorporating means 6. For example, degree of reduction of deterioration is reduced in accordance with the cumulative number of reproduction times. Alternatively, when the number of times of reproduction is equal to or less than the permissible number of reproduction times, the deterioration is reduced completely.
