<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for cleaning an exhaust gas which can highly efficiently clean nitrogen oxide contained in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine burning mainly in a lean condition even at the time of starting at a low temperature. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus 9 for cleaning the exhaust gas eliminating nitrogen oxide contained by periodically changing the atmosphere of the exhaust gas exhausted from the internal combustion engine 1 to an oxidative or a reductive condition, is provided with a reforming means 18 introducing a reforming gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide to an exhaust passage 11 leading the exhaust gas to the atmosphere side, an adsorbing means 30 at least containing silver oxide which will be reduced by consuming the hydrogen, adsorbing the nitrogen oxides and desorbing the adsorbed nitrogen oxide with the rise of a temperature, and a cleaning means 17 cleaning the exhaust gas by reducing the nitrogen oxide through consuming carbon monoxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
