<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery with a cap assembly integrally formed to be joined to an opening portion of a can, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery includes an electrode assembly 130, the can 120 having the opening portion formed at one end to store the electrode assembly, and a cap assembly including a cap up 131, an safety element 132 arranged on the lower part of the cap up, a safety vent 133 arranged in the lower part of the safety element, an insulating gasket 134 for embracing outer shell portions of the cap up, the safety element and the safety vent, and a cap body 135 for clamping an outer shell portion of the insulating gasket.
