PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a properly balanced image close to the expected image quantity and resolution of a user. SOLUTION: A pixel adding mode setting screen is displayed (step 100), to select any of an image quality preferential mode for improving an image quality by adding pixels, while maintaining a minimum pixel number set by the user and a pixel preferred mode for adding the pixel so that the pixel number increases as much as possible, while a minimum image quality level set by the user is maintained. When selecting the image quality preferred mode, the minimum pixel number can be set (step 102 and 104); and when selecting the pixel number preferential mode, a minimum S/N level can be set (steps 106 and 108). When the image quality preferred mode is selected, the image quality is improved by adding the pixel, by increasing the pixel adding number as much as possible, while maintaining minimum pixel number; and when the pixel preferential mode is selected, the pixel number is increased by reducing the pixel adding number as much as possible, in a range which is capable of maintaining the minimum S/N level.
