PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical alignment (VA) liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules, a common electrode; and an electrode set which switches the liquid crystal layer installed between the common electrode and the electrode set. The electrode set includes a first electrode provided for switching of a first region of the liquid crystal layer and a second electrode provided for switching of a second region of the liquid crystal layer. The second region includes at least a region as a portion of the liquid crystal layer not including the first region, and the first electrode has a shape corresponding to the second electrode and aligns liquid crystal molecules substantially in two orthogonal directions.
