PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for assembling a gear shaft that is reduced in time for assembling a gear shaft, manufacturable at low cost, and easily maintainable, and also to provide a method of assembling the gear shaft. SOLUTION: The gear shaft assembling device includes a six-axis robot and a gear shaft assembling base. A robot hand includes a pressing bracket 53 for pressing a gear 3, and pressingly holds the gear by a pressing part 53a. The robot hand disposes the holding gear near the upper end of the spline of a shaft 2 by inserting the shaft extending downward from the fixed part 42 of the assembling base into the shaft hole of the gear, unclamps the gear, and horizontally rotates, and/or the gear shaft assembling base is horizontally rotated in the opposite direction of the robot hand.
