摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology improving fuel economy without drastically changing external EGR gas quantity when valve operation angles of an intake and an exhaust valves are changed over to large operation angle from small operation angle in a control device for an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: Valve timing of the intake valve is set in such a manner that open timing of the intake valve is retarded more than that in a case that the operation condition of the internal combustion engine is in the low load region side, and that close timing of the intake valve is in a neighborhood of a bottom dead center and is retarded more than that in a case that the operation condition of the internal combustion engine is in the low load region side, and introduction of external EGR gas is started toward quantity demanded in a case that the operation condition of the internal combustion engine is in the high load region side (S104), when an operation condition of the internal combustion engine is shifted to a predetermined region P close to a high load region side H in a low load region side L (S103-yes).
