PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hollow powder of potassium titanate suitable as a friction material, a method for producing the same, and a friction material comprising the same. SOLUTION: A titanium compound and an alkali metal compound are mixed and fired, the resulting alkali titanate is dispersed in a solvent to form slurry, and this slurry is spray-dried and heat-treated, whereby hollow powder can be produced in which alkali titanate particles having a shape such as the shape of a rod, a column or a cylinder are united.
