PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase speed or reduce power consumption of a semiconductor device including CAM. SOLUTION: For example, the semiconductor device includes a dummy memory block MBD and a dummy submatch determining circuit SMDD, in addition to a regular memory block MB and a regular submatch determining circuit SMD. The MBD and SMDD, which have the same configurations as the MB and SMD, provide a fixed operation according to "match" or "mismatch" at all times in searching operation by fixing predetermined signals. A dummy main match determining circuit MMDD determines the match/mismatch state, and a determining timing in the regular main match determining circuit MMD is set based on the match/mismatch state. The MMD (MMDD) makes determination, based on whether the voltage of the main match line MML (MMLD) which has been rapidly charged is discharged or not via SMD (SMDD). COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
