<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst the catalytic action of which is exhibited even in a dark state and exhibited in a bright state more strongly than in the dark state, the manufacturing cost of which is reduced when an expensive noble metal (such as platinum, gold and zirconia) is used and the energy cost of which is reduced when the catalyst is heated to accelerate a reaction velocity. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst is obtained by depositing the noble metal on the surface of a titanium dioxide-molded article only on the surface layer of 0.1-1.2 [mm] depth. The titanium dioxide-molded article has 2-15 mm outside diameter, 35-65 m<SP>2</SP>/g BET surface area, 0.2-0.9 ml/g pore volume, such a pore distribution that there is no pore having <5 nm pore size and at least 80% of pores have 10-70 nm pore size and 40-300 N crushing strength, contains 94 wt.% TiO<SB>2</SB>at the least and 50 wt.% anatase type TiO<SB>2</SB>at the least and is obtained by a pyrolysis method. Indoor toxic substances (such as acetaldehyde and formaldehyde) can be decomposed when this catalyst is used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
