PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the volume ratio an active substance occupies by utilizing a core material capable of withstanding a high pressure rolling, and not to increase the internal resistance of a battery. SOLUTION: In an electrode of the alkaline storage battery, the conductive core material is used as a current collector, and the core material has a plurality of through-holes having a nearly rectangular shape linearly and parallelly along the longitudinal direction of the core material. The size of each through-hole in the width direction of the core material is made larger than or equal to the size of each through-hole in the longitudinal direction of the core material.
