PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television broadcast receiver capable of efficiently setting an optimum channel list, and to provide a method for setting a channel list. SOLUTION: In the television broadcast receiver 1 for receiving a TV broadcast signal based on a preset channel list in normal operation, configured to set a channel list by scanning channels in a preset order, while skipping the channels that are already set in the current channel list, a channel capable of receiving a TV broadcast signal is detected by a tuner 11; an area is identified, capable of receiving the TV broadcast signal corresponding to a receivable channel (when detected), based on the area identification information contained in the TV broadcast signal; a channel list for the identified area is obtained from a sectionalized channel list storage file 173 a1; and the channel list obtained is set.
