The device (1) has a stationary sharpening wheel i.e. drive wheel (5), and a swiveling device (3) that is swivelably supported on a base frame (2) around a vertical axle. The swiveling device is connected with a drive wheel, and exhibits a bearing block, holding device (7) and fixing device for a workpiece (8) i.e. cutter of lawn mower. A bolt is swivelably supported on the bearing block, and a roll is arranged at both ends of the bolt. The swiveling device exhibits a connecting rod fixed at the base frame. An independent claim is also included for a method for sharpening a workpiece.
