A system for monitoring one or more individuals in a control chamber of a plant or vehicle, such as a ship's bridge, comprises a means for identifying whether each individual is a permitted individual allowed to access the control chamber characterised in that the means for identifying. each permitted individual is by analysis of one or more captured facial images of each in¬ dividual's face and that the system further comprises a means for generating a fatigue level for each permitted individual using data derived from the captured facial images. The system predicts a safe watch keeping period for each individual, which can be adjusted as the watch progresses using learnt historical data and ambient factors.
