PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance definition of an image projected at the initial lighting stage of a lamp bulb. SOLUTION: For startup of a projector 10, the lamp 14 is energized, and when a lamp voltage VL detected by a lamp voltage detection circuit 15 becomes equal to or exceeding a prescribed value, a ballast microcontroller 16 outputs a lamp pulse synchronization signal to a lamp pulse generation circuit 19.
