PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diameter-expansion method for a snap ring and a snap ring installing device for easily installing the snap ring in a snap ring installing groove, while easily diametrically expanding a large snap ring. SOLUTION: A guide member 20 is placed on an installation object member 70, and the snap ring 8 is put on a conical surface part 26, and an annular plate member 22 is placed on it. A pushing-down member 14 is pushed down by an operation lever 16. When pushing down the annular plate member 22 and the snap ring 8 by the pushing-down member 14, the annular plate member 22 and the snap ring 8 move downward while being diametrically expanded by the conical surface part 26. At this time, when the snap ring 8 diametrically expands, since the annular plate member 22 also diametrically expands, force operating in the direction for checking the diametrical expansion of the snap ring 8 is a very little between the snap ring 8 and the annular plate member 22, and the snap ring 8 is smoothly diametrically expanded.
