PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC motor capable of achieving cost reduction, little iron loss and high torque. SOLUTION: In a stator 10, the whole of respective stator salient poles 11 is formed of a second stator material, a soft magnetic material having a relatively higher saturation magnetic flux density than that of a first stator material, a soft magnetic material forming a stator yoke portion 16. When multipolarized, the whole of the respective stator salient poles 11 has a smaller magnetic path cross-sectional area than that of the stator yoke portion 16, thereby improving torque by inhibiting the occurrence of magnetic saturation in each of the stator salient poles 11 where magnetic flux is concentrated. In a rotor 20, the whole of respective rotor salient poles 21 is formed of a second rotor material, a soft magnetic material having a relatively higher saturation magnetic flux density than that of a first rotor material, a soft magnetic material forming a rotor yoke portion 26. When multipolarized, the whole of the respective rotor salient poles 21 has a smaller magnetic path cross-sectional area than that of the rotor yoke portion 26, thereby improving torque by inhibiting the occurrence of magnetic saturation in each of the rotor salient poles 21 where magnetic fluxes are concentrated.
