PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk, by which adhesion of a fine foreign matter on the glass substrate causing an impediment to low flying height and thermal asperity can be reduced by preventing dust generation from a substrate holder for holding the glass substrate or by contact of the substrate holder with the glass substrate in a liquid treatment step in manufacture of the glass substrate for the magnetic disk. SOLUTION: In the liquid treatment step, e.g. a cleaning treatment step, in manufacture of the glass substrate for the magnetic disk, the glass substrate 10 is held by the substrate holder 20 composed of a resin having hardness lower than that of the glass substrate and having high strength.
