PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet motor which can relax concentration of stress on a magnet insertion hole. SOLUTION: In the permanent magnet motor, a magnet insertion hole 2 has a side surface air gap 3 provided in the side surface 9 near the corner on the outer circumferential side of the magnet insertion hole 2, and an outer peripheral side air gap 14 provided in the outer circumferential surface 5 near the corner on the outer circumferential side. Furthermore, the shortest distance L of the side surface air gap 3 and the outer peripheral side air gap 14 is set longer than a clearance c between a magnet 6 and the side surface 9 of the magnet insertion hole 2.
