PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably perform focus control with respect to a face being an object. SOLUTION: A reference value holding section 306 holds reference values 1 and 2. A face detection section 302 detects a face included in an imaged image from an imaging section 301 and the width of an face image. A subject distance calculating section 305 calculates a first subject distance, based on the detected face image width and the reference value 1 and a second subject distance, based on the detected face image width and the reference value 2. A face AF range calculating section 307 calculates a face AF range, based on the first and second subject distances. A face AF range use possible or impossible determining range calculating section 308 calculates a face AF range use possible or impossible determining range including the face AF range. An autofocus control section 311 sets the face AF range and moves a focus lens in the face AF range, to detect a focal position with respect to the detected face, when the current position of the focus lens is included in the face AF range use possible or impossible determining range.
