A medicated feed having anthelminthic properties comprises an orally ingestible non-toxic feed substance and a cadmium compound in amount to provide at least 0.003 per cent of cadmium. The preparation may be prepared as a concentrate to be added to feeds for poultry and domestic animals or as the final feed. Soy bean meal, soy bean flour, dried distiller's residue, dried whey, dried buttermilk, dried skim milk, pulverized oats, ground corn meal, wheat bran, salt, bone-meal and bone-ash are specified as non-toxic feed substances. Specified cadmium compounds include the oxide, chloride, bromide, sulphate, pentachlorophenate, naphthenate, orthophenyl phenate, carbonate, hydroxide, silicate, chloro-orthophenylphenate, 2 : 4 dichloro-orthophenylphenate, acetate, arsenate, borate, chlorophosphate, fluoride, fluosilicate, nitrate, oxalate, perchlorate, phosphates (particularly the ortho- and meta-phosphates), sulphide, stannate, iodide, stearate, salicylate, and mixed salts such as cadmium ammonium fluoride, cadmium sodium chloride, ZnS.CdS.BaSO4, CdS.BaSO4 and CdS.CdSe.BaSO4. Non-toxic coloring materials (charcoal, iron oxide, crystal violet, brilliant green), wetting agents, dispersing agents, gelling agents, peptising agents, auxiliaries such as bentonite, oils, fats, methyl cellulose, sodium alginate, vitamins and laxatives e.g. magnesium sulphate may also be added. The preparations may be made up in concentrated form using soybean meal, soybean flour, dried distiller's residue, dried whey, dried buttermilk, dried skim milk, pulverised oats, ground corn meal, wheat bran, salt, bone-meal and bone-ash. Phenothiazine and nicotine compounds may also be added. In an example cadmium oxide is milled with a mixture of finely ground oats and corn. |
