A lower body exercise apparatus comprises a seat mounted to a base such that the seat can be slid to and fro in a cyclical motion along the base by a user performing a leg extension exercise. An energy storage device is provided to resist motion of the seat/user during an initial phase of the motion cycle and assist motion of the seat/user during the remainder of the motion cycle. The apparatus further includes a functional electrical stimulation (FES) unit so that the exercise apparatus may be used by a person with lower limb paralysis. |
