Electrostatic charge on foamed plastics is eliminated by introducing inorganic substances, particularly metal powders, for example aluminium powder, into a plastic-plus-solvent mix during extrusion (see Group V). The weight of the aluminium powder may be up to 30-40 per cent of the weight of the plastic material. The solvent may be acetone for cellulose acetate, butane for polyethylene, and methyl chloride for polyvinyl chloride and polystyrene.
