A system for feedback bandwidth reduction in a closed loop multiple-input-multiple-output MIMO system by factoring non essential information, in particular phase information, out of a beamforming matrix. The system comprises N antennas and a processor coupled to the N antennas wherein the processor is arranged to estimate channel state information from a received signal, determine a NxN beamforming matrix from the channel state information, factor a phase angle out of each column of the NxN beamforming matrix and represent the beamforming matrix without the phase angles using N2-N angles. |
