A method for judging the track-keeping capacity of a motor vehicle having front and rear axles, comprises the steps of
a) estimating, for at least one of said axles, a first quantity proportional to the weight of the vehicle carried by said axle,
b) estimating, for said axle, a second quantity proportional to a longitudinal drive force acting on said axle,
c) calculating a difference of said first and second quantities,
d) deriving a measure of the vehicle's track-keeping capacity from said difference.
