The sensor (30) has a connecting element (34) for connecting the sensor to a connection unit in an operating mode. A control and evaluation unit (40) i.e. micro controller, has a memory (50) i.e. flash memory, for storing of configuration and program data of the sensor. Configuration software (56) is stored in the memory of the control and evaluation unit. An electronic device (48) identifies whether the sensor is present in an operating connection with the connection unit and/or whether the sensor is connected with an external computer (20) e.g. laptop.
