A retaining device 204 for increasing mechanical stability of a lamp 201 located within a light fixture. The device comprises a strap 301 having a substantially C-shaped form and having a respective end portion 307A, 307B adjacent to each end of the strap. Latching means 308A, 308B, 309A and 309B are located on each of the end portions for latching the respective end portion within an aperture 407 formed in a plate 402. The latching means comprises of a plurality of latching elements 308A, 308B, 309A and 309B spaced along each of the end portions to allow the device to accommodate a variety of types of lamp 201 having a variety of dimensions. As shown a pair of resilient arms 312, 313 extend from middle portion 304 to exert a spring force on the lamp but these may be replaced by a resilient pad located beneath the portion 304. |
