<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably purify a PM with no pressure loss by improving the trapping efficiency of the PM and efficiently stabilizing the incineration of the PM. <P>SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure 20 consists of a plurality of sets of first exhaust gas passages 221 each having an exhaust gas introduction face opened and an exhaust gas delivery face blocked with a plug cover and second exhaust gas passages 222 neighboring the first exhaust gas passages with partition walls and each having an exhaust gas introduction face blocked with a plug cover and an exhaust gas delivery face opened. The plug covers are formed of metal to form discharge electrodes 31, 32.
