To provide a method for measuring elastic characteristics of a knitting yarn that can self-evaluate the characteristics of an elastic yarn to be used by a knitting machine and to provide the knitting machine. Reversing a yarn feed roller 16 with a head end of a knitting yarn 5 held by a gripper 7 can increase the yarn tension of the knitting yarn 5 between the yarn feed roller 16 and the gripper 7. The free length of the knitting yarn 5 remaining in the section of the distance W under this yarn tension T becomes W-d, where d denotes the return length of the knitting yarn 5 when the yarn tension decreases lower than the vicinity of zero by rotating the yarn feed roller 16 in the normal direction. The elongation percentage under the yarn tension T becomes W / (W-d) x 100%, and therefore, the elastic characteristics of the knitting yarn 5 can be self-evaluated by the flat knitting machine 1. |
