Class 103(5) A combined buffer and draw-gear comprises a main spring unit 237.held under. initial compression by followers 236 engag-. ing fore and aft stop lugs 214, 216 in the draught pocket. On either side of the main unit are disposed compensating cushioning. units 242 having followers 234 engaging the yoke 220 to hold the units under an initial compression less than that of the main unit. The yoke 220 holds the followers 234 away from -their respective stop lugs in the neutral position shown but during draught'or buff the appropriate compensating unit 242 expands until the follower 234 engages its associated stop lug.
