Biomedical devices are provided herein which are formed from a polymerization product of a monomeric mixture comprising (a) one or more esterified aminoalcohol monomers; and (b) one or more biomedical device-forming monomers. The former has the general formula XNR1R2, wherein X is a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated organic ester-containing radical, R1 is hydrogen, or a C1-C30 non-polymerizable hydrocarbyl group optionally substituted with a hydroxyl group, and R2 is a hydroxyl-containing non-polymerizable group.
