<p>A variable valve gear (10) for an internal combustion engine has a camshaft (28), a rocker shaft (22), and a rocker arm mechanism (26) for transmitting movement of a cam (30) of the camshaft to an intake valve (12). The rocker arm mechanism has a first arm (14) for driving the intake valve, a second arm (16), a conversion member (18), and a drive mechanism (24) for pivoting the rocker shaft. The first arm is rockably supported by the rocker shaft. The second arm is driven by the cam and rocks on a universal joint section (40) on the rocker shaft side. As the second arm rocks, the conversion member is displaced to drive the first arm. Thus, the variable drive gear operates the intake valve and exhaust valve while continuously changing the drive phases and lift amounts of the valves.</p> |
