METHOD FOR ESTIMATING A REGISTRATION ERROR

Disclosed is a method for estimating the registration error with which a set of points, especially an image, is registered relative to at least one registration coordinate by means of a registration process. According to said method, a) a random sample of points is selected among the set of points; b) the actual position along the selected registration coordinate is measured for each point contained in the random sample with the aid of a measuring head; c) an error variable distribution (X1, , XN) is determined in such a way that an error variable is calculated in the form of the difference between the actual position and the registered position along the selected registration coordinate for each of the points contained in the random sample; d) a probability (a) of mistakes is defined; e) a test value (µY) is defined for the registration error (TRE); f) a statistical test variable (T) is determined from the error variable distribution (X1, , XN) and the test value (µY); g) a hypothesis is formulated regarding the existence of a mathematical relation between a statistical variable of the error variable distribution (X1, , XN) and the test value (µY) defined in step e), and it is determined, based on the statistical test variable (T) regarding the defined probability (a) of mistakes, whether the hypothesis can be rejected; h) the registration error (TRE) is established in accordance with the hypothesis rejected in step g).
