The invention relates inter alia to a method for protecting, controlling or monitoring an electrical switchgear or power supply station (10). According to said method, a field device (20), especially a protective device, is used to generate data telegrams (D) that relate to the status of the switchgear or power supply station, and the data telegrams are transmitted to a higher-order command level device (40). According to the invention, a second field device (30) is redundant with respect to the first field device and is used to check whether the first field device (20) is operative by operating a communication link (60) between the two field devices via which link the second field device is informed of the functional status of the first field device. The second field device ceases forwarding own data telegrams (D) to the higher-order command level device if the first field device is operative, else it transmits data telegrams relating to the status of the switchgear or power supply station to the higher-order command level device. |
