A conventional holding mechanism for supporting a column member in the neighborhood before reaching a storage state is difficult to perform operation surely. In the folding side rail, a first holding mechanism (5) for holding column members in rising posture to operate between a use state where the column members are rising and a tilting storage state by coupling a plurality of column members (2) rotatably to constitute a parallel link mechanism is provided between an upper crosspiece (1u) and a lower crosspiece (1d). A second holding mechanism (6) for holding the column members in the neighborhood before reaching the storage state is provided on the upper side of the lower crosspiece. This holding mechanism comprises a holding piece constituted movably between the holding posture and the non-holding posture, a spring for urging the holding piece in the direction of holding posture, a mechanism for latching the holding piece in the non-holding posture, and an unlatching mechanism.
