This object is aimed to provide a picture recording control method that does not cause the omission of a cue when a program that is viewed by a viewing device is recorded in a picture recording system wherein the viewing device is connected with a picture recording device. Every time when channel selection that a user carries out selection of channel by using a remote controller, a channel selection command is sent from a control unit of the viewing device to a control unit of the picture recording device. The control unit of the picture recording device instructs, in accordance with the channel selection command, a tuner built in the picture recording device to take out TS contained in a program to be recorded from a broadcast signal. The taken-out TS is converted into PS in a data processing unit. When the user uses the remote controller to instruct the viewing device on the recording of a picture, a picture recording command is sent from the control unit of the viewing device to the control device of the picture recording device. Since the picture recording device has already been prepared for the recording of a picture, the control unit of the picture recording device that has received the picture recording command instructs a picture recording unit to immediately start the recording of the PS including program data.
