PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve modulation characteristics of a magneto-optic spatial light modulator by reducing internal reflection light having no rotatory polarization to a minimum, and improving the contrast ((light quantity in the on state)/(light quantity in the off state)) of light emitted from a magnetic garnet film with a board attached thereto. SOLUTION: The magneto-optic device includes the magnetic garnet film which has the Faraday effect and is arranged on a non-magnetic garnet board. Here, a garnet interlayer is interposed between the non-magnetic garnet board and the magnetic garnet film, wherein a refractive index n1 of the garnet interlayer satisfies inequality ns<n1<n2 (ns is a refractive index of the non-magnetic garnet board, and n2 is that of the magnetic garnet film), and further a product of the refractive index n1 of the garnet interlayer and the film thickness d1 falls within a range of n1×d1=λ/4±10% (here,λis a wavelength of used light).
