PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having a luminescence with a high efficiency, a low voltage and a long life. SOLUTION: The organic EL element comprises a plus terminal, a minus terminal and an organic thin film layer nipped between the plus terminal and the minus terminal in which an oligofluorene compound represented by the general formula [1] (wherein P<SB>1</SB>is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a 1-20C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group; P<SB>2</SB>is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted 1-20C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted 2-naphthyl group; R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a 1-20C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group; and n is an integer of 2-4) is contained in the organic thin film layer.
