PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head for holding a component and a detecting method wherein a sensor of a magnetic detection function is arranged in a portion within a region of a magnetic field of a magnet so that the existence or non-existence of the component is shown as a signal and the existence/non-existence of the component can be determined. SOLUTION: The component 14 formed of a magnetic material is a target of holding, a holding part 15 having reference surfaces 16 and 17 for positioning the component is formed at a head body 13, magnets 22 and 23 attracting the component 14 to the reference surfaces 16 and 17 are attached to the inside of the head body, and the sensor 24 of the magnetic detection function is arranged within the region of the magnetic field of the magnet 22.
