<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video telephone terminal by which the emotions and impressions of a user can be transmitted to a caller so as to be easily understood. <P>SOLUTION: When a user performs a predetermined operation using a keyboard 115 or when an audio processor 109 identifies a predetermined keyword in words spoken by the user, an image formed by adding some changes to a virtual character, or a completely different image is transmitted. That is, for example, to change the size of each part forming a face of a virtual character or the size of a whole face, or to draw vertical lines in the eyes of the virtual character, or to make the cheeks flushed. Further, when a pending mode is released, the virtual character appears again on the screen while a melody is played.
