PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fumaric acid ester polymer having a high molecular weight with high productivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the fumaric acid ester polymer includes polymerizing a fumaric acid ester having a malic acid ester content of≤0.3 wt.% in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator.
