PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems wherein a complicated mechanism is required for removing shoots, present on an unspecified surface of potato having an indeterminate shape, by automatically recognizing the positions of the shoots, especially, although often high cost of installation is required, in a method that uses expensive image processing for detection of the positions of the shoots, and in a method for removing the shoots together with the skin, the yield would be reduced because a large amount of parts which need not be removed is removed. SOLUTION: Dry ice blast is used as a method by which the whole outer periphery including swollen parts, as well as, recessed parts can be removed uniformly, in a method for removing the shoots with the peel.
