LIGHT SOURCE, PROJECTOR AND METHOD FOR DRIVING LIGHT SOURCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source capable of forming a large and stable projection part in restoration, by restoring the electrode tip side in response to a consuming state. SOLUTION: Since a control device 70b compositely drives a first lighting wave form (as shown in Fig.6(A)) having a maximum current value except for a half-cycle rear end part and a second lighting waveform (as shown in Fig.6(B)) having the maximum current value in a half-cycle rear end part, a growth state of the projection part formed on the electrode tip side can be adjusted by adjusting the mixing ratio of the first lighting waveform and the second lighting waveform. A light source device 100 of this embodiment can also form the projection part 115a of a stable shape having the sufficient thickness on the root side on the tip side of a first electrode 15 and a second electrode 16 by performing lighting driving using at least the first lighting waveform when an electrode distance becomes long.
