PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an imide resin, in which an amine salt generated in a polymer chain after a reaction is eliminated when an acrylic resin and an imidization agent are reacted in the presence of an organic solvent. SOLUTION: The method for producing an imide resin comprises reacting an acrylic resin with an imidization agent at the presence of an organic solvent, followed by the contact with an ion exchange resin. By the method, an amine salt generated in a polymer chain can be eliminated, and an imide resin having no polymer odor and having no trouble, such as of foaming in a process of forming a melt film.
