摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement uniform illumination on a plane at a predetermined distance from an optical reflector while using light from a light source with high efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A surface lighting unit comprises a bottom part, sidewall parts, and the optical reflector having an opening and spaced apart by a predetermined distance from the bottom part. The opening substantially satisfies a relation: A=bx<SP>2</SP>+c, where A is an opening ratio, i.e. the ratio of the area of the opening in a predetermined region to the area of the region, b and c are constants, and x is a distance from the center of the optical reflector.
