PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide detergent particles excellent in solubility and excellent in storage stability such as caking resistance and resistance for oozing a surfactant and the like, and to provide a detergent composition containing the detergent particles. SOLUTION: [1] The detergent particles prepared by a method having a process (1) for producing base detergent particles, a process (2) for neutralizing the surfaces of the obtained base detergent particles with an acid precursor of an anionic surfactant, and a process (3) for adding and coating the obtained detergent particles with a surface-modifying agent containing a laminar clay mineral having an average particle diameter of≤40μm, and [2] the detergent composition containing the same are provided.
