<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data processing apparatus and an image data processing method which enable high gradation frame rate conversion using low gradation elements. <P>SOLUTION: First image data of a first frame rate having gradation data of a first number of bits is divided into second image data having gradation data of a second number of bits and third image data having gradation data of a third number of bits. The second image data is interpolated so as to generate fourth image data of a second frame rate larger than the first frame rate, having gradation data of the second number of bits. The third image data is held and outputted for a plural number of times so as to generate fifth image data of the second frame rate having gradation data of the third number of bits.
