<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure diagnostic device suitable for diagnosis of existence of a failure in a premixed compression self-ignition engine executing internal EGR by using an intake side variable valve train and an exhaust side variable valve train. <P>SOLUTION: A control computer C determines existence of a failure of the exhaust side variable valve train 27 and the intake side variable valve train 29 based on intake air flow fluctuation information acquired by an air flow meter (intake air flow maximum value or intake air flow rise start timing), information of change over from spark ignition combustion to compression self-ignition combustion, and predetermined first reference fluctuation information. The control computer C determines existence of a failure of the exhaust side variable valve train 27 and the intake side variable valve train 29 based on intake air flow fluctuation information acquired by the air flow meter (intake air flow maximum value or intake air flow rise start timing), information of change over from compression self-ignition combustion to spark ignition combustion, and predetermined second reference fluctuation information. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
