<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem in the conventional method for producing a multi-metal sheet structure: there is certain limitations such as need for special surface pretreatment; weld by laser welding, electron beam welding or the like makes a weld zone brittle and weak due to the melting of base material and high cooling rates and the weld zone is also prone to incur stress concentration. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing multi-sheet structures is disclosed in which a first sheet is arranged on a planar support and a blowing agent is placed on at least one selected portion of the first sheet. A second sheet is positioned over the first sheet so that the second sheet overlies at least one selected portion of the first sheet and the first and second sheets are then secured together by fiction stir welding in a pattern which encloses the selected portion of the first sheet. Thereafter, the sheets are heated to a temperature sufficient to decompose the blowing agent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
